Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey shipped a pair of runners into Colonial Downs for the GI Arlington Million Stakes on Saturday, but it was the higher-priced Fort Washington (War Front–Azaelia (Fr), by Turtle Bowl {Ire}) who took home the prize and his first highest level score of his career.

As a 5-1 shot here, the 6-year-old loped along at the rear of the field into the first turn and continued to bide his time as a longshot showed the way through the backstretch. Fort Washington started to launch his bid as the field entered the lane and with a well-timed ride he was up to get the money. Grand Sonata (Medaglia d'Oro) was the runner-up, McGaughey favorite Integration (Quality Road) was third, and GI Kentucky Derby hero Mystik Dan (Goldencents)–who was trying turf for the first time–ended up fourth.

The final running time was 1:59.58.

Lifetime Record: 28-7-3-8. Sales History: FTKHRA '23 $260,000.
