In a stylistically similar effort to her maiden score, 'TDN Rising Star' Himika (Curlin) rolled away from her rivals to win the GIII Sorrento Stakes and collect her career first black-type.

A $900,000 purchase by Baoma Corp. at the OBS April sale this spring, the Bob Baffert runner easily handled a maiden field June 12 at this venue by six lengths to earn the stamp of approval from the TDN, and was made the overwhelming 1-5 favorite for this stakes debut.

Breaking well but outrun early from the rail, she had to be asked to improve her position and she did so willingly from between runners. Weaving into clear sailing after an opening quarter in :22.11, Himika was the leader entering the top of the stretch and only expanded her advantage from there to win in hand. Mo' Em Down (Caracaro) was a long way back in second while Thank You India (Practical Joke) ran third.
