Rosehill is the destination for metro racing in NSW this Saturday, with a bumper 10-part program lined up for Rosebud Day. The rail moves out 1m for the entire circuit, and although the surface is rated a Heavy 9, there is a chance of an upgrade into the Soft 7 range if the predicted rain misses the track. The action for Rosebud Day 2025 is set to commence at 11:35am local time.

The Rosebud Tip: Skyhook

Skyhook returns after a phenomenal two-year-old campaign that culminated in a mid-field finish in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) on March 22. The son of Written Tycoon appears to be returning in terrific order, catching the eye in a recent barrier trial at this course on July 29 when stretching out impressively under minimal riding by Kerrin McEvoy. He needs to lug 60.5kg first-up; however, with an element of class on his side, Skyhook warrants the penalty and should take a power of beating in the $200,000 feature.

Best Bet at Rosehill: Adelaide River

The Kris Lees-trained Adelaide River represents terrific value at $9 with PlayUp as he returns on the back of three strong trial victories. Based on what he has done to date, the 1400m is short of his best trip; however, he appears well weighted despite the 60kg on his back. With conditions likely to suit his get-back-run-on style of racing, Adelaide River warrants respect in this open contest.

5yo Gelding | T: Kris Lees | J: Dylan Gibbons (60kg)

Next Best at Rosehill: Gatsby’s

Gatsby’s was frustrating for punters last preparation, only hitting the frame once across his five starts. An offseason gelding operation looks to have improved his manners, with the four-year-old showing good early speed in his latest barrier trial at Warwick Farm on August 8. His two victories in the past have come first-up from a spell, while he should appreciate the soft ground on offer.

Best Value at Rosehill: Be Real

The Brad Widdup-trained Be Real looks a big price at $17 with horse racing bookmakers in the Rosehill opener. The Iffraaj mare produced a peak performance first-up last preparation in the Group 3 Aspiration Stakes (1600m) and did an outstanding job when attempting to sprint off a slow tempo. This BM72 is much weaker than what she faced on that occasion, and with a genuine speed engaged on the yielding conditions, watch for Be Real to be flashing over the top.
