Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted August 21 Journalists Posted August 21 Friday, York, post time: 15:35, THE COOLMORE WOOTTON BASSETT NUNTHORPE STAKES-G1, £697,500, 2yo/up, 5fT Field: Jm Jungle (Ire) (Bungle Inthejungle {GB}), Kerdos (Ire) (Profitable {Ire}), Manaccan (GB) (Exceed And Excel {Aus}), Night Raider (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}), Rumstar (GB) (Havana Grey {GB}), Spartan Arrow (Ire) (Sioux Nation), Washington Heights (GB) (Washington DC {Ire}), Ain't Nobody (Ire) (Sands Of Mali {Fr}), Arizona Blaze (GB) (Sergei Prokofiev), Asfoora (Aus) (Flying Artie {Aus}), Frost At Dawn (Frosted), Mgheera (GB) (Zoustar {Aus}), She's Quality (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}), Celandine (GB) (Kingman {GB}), Sayidah Dariyan (Ire) (Dariyan {Fr}), Lady Iman (Ire) (Starman {GB}), Spicy Marg (GB) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}). TDN Verdict: The two-year-old fillies Lady Iman and Spicy Marg bring another–and welcome–dimension to this renewal, as Europe's sprint division has been feeling a bit tired for a while and in need of some excitement. Most of the recent Group 1s in this category have been won by ex-handicappers and there is very little separating the top ones in that sphere and the Pattern-race brigade, so it is up to the likes of the juveniles and the unexposed three-year-old Sayidah Dariyan to stage a breakthrough. The latter took the track's six-furlong G3 Summer Stakes last month and should have no problems with the drop back to five as he tackles the hardened band of speedsters led by Arizona Blaze and Asfoora. Friday, York, post time: 14:25, THE WEATHERBYS LONSDALE CUP-G2, £250,000, 3yo/up, 16f 56yT Field: Trawlerman (Ire) (Golden Horn {GB}), Al Nayyir (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), Al Qareem (Ire) (Awtaad {Ire}), Dubai Future (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), Sweet William (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}), Shackleton (Ire) (Camelot {GB}). TDN Verdict: Trawlerman has gone from strength to strength since winning this meeting's feature Ebor Handicap three years ago and now that Kyprios is out of the way seems to have taken another step forward. There is little evidence that the impressive Gold Cup hero has any weakness here, with stablemate Sweet William very much his underling and the course specialist Al Qareem needing to improve over a trip that is probably too far. [Tom Frary]. Friday, York, post time: 15:00, THE AL BASTI EQUIWORLD DUBAI GIMCRACK STAKES-G2, £250,000, 2yo, c/g, 6fT Field: Comical Point (Ire) (Blue Point {Ire}), Do Or Do Not (Ire) (Space Blues {Ire}), Egoli (GB) (No Nay Never), Irish Fighter (Ire) (Profitable {Ire}), Lifeplan (Ire) (Kodi Bear {Ire}), Reciprocated (GB) (Havana Grey {GB}), Rock On Thunder (Ire) (Night Of Thunder {Ire}), Yorkshire Puds (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}). TDN Verdict: Fitted with cheekpieces, Do Or Do Not has a real opportunity to get a Group-race win after three admirable placings in a renewal that has cut up. Reciprocated looked a bright prospect before flopping in the Listed Pat Eddery Stakes over seven, while the Thirsk novice winner Lifeplan has a lot to find race one to two even allowing for his obvious promise. [Tom Frary]. Saturday, York, post time: 15:00, THE SKY BET CITY OF YORK STAKES-G1, £665,000, 3yo/up, 7fT Field: Annaf (Ire) (Muhaarar {GB}), Audience (GB) (Iffraaj {GB}), Lake Forest (GB) (No Nay Never), Never So Brave (Ire) (No Nay Never), Qirat (GB) (Showcasing {GB}), Quinault (Ger) (Oasis Dream {GB}), Rosallion (Ire) (Blue Point {Ire}), Ten Bob Tony (Ire) (Night Of Thunder {Ire}), Maranoa Charlie (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}), Seagulls Eleven (Ire) (Galileo Gold {GB}), Exactly (Ire) (Frankel {GB}). TDN Verdict: If Rosallion gives his best, few here will be able to live with his lethal acceleration and it could be that this is the trip he has been waiting for all along despite his Group 1-winning exploits over a mile. On bear ratings, there isn't much between him and the Summer Mile winner Never So Brave, but in terms of the speed he can produce it is a relative gulf. Maranoa Charlie will give it his all as usual and will probably keep going, but he may lack something at the top level and could just be a sitting duck while the 2023 Gimcrack winner Lake Forest needs to get back to the form of his Golden Eagle success. [Tom Frary]. Saturday, Curragh, post time: 15:27, COOLMORE STUD WOOTTON BASSETT TOM COOPER IRISH EUROPEAN BREEDERS FUND FUTURITY STAKES-G2, €72,000, 2yo, 7fT Field: A Boy Named Susie (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}), Chicago Pope (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}), Constitution River (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}), Geryon (Ire) (Lope De Vega {Ire}), Go Just Do It (GB) (Kingman {GB}). TDN Verdict: In the absence of proven Pattern-race performers, three maiden winners with infinite promise clash in Constitution River, A Boy Named Susie and Geryon. The former represents Aidan O'Brien successful on 17 occasions and in 10 of the last dozen and he followed a smart debut effort at Newmarket with a smooth win at Galway, while A Boy Named Susie and Geryon impressed on their winning debuts at Killarney and The Curragh respectively. [Tom Frary]. Saturday, Curragh, post time: 16:02, ALPHA CENTAURI DEBUTANTE STAKES-G2, €72,000, 2yo, f, 7fT Field: Balantina (Ire) (Ten Sovereigns {Ire}), Brownstown (GB) (Cracksman {GB}), Composing (Ire) (Wootton Bassett {GB}), Evolutionist (Ire) (Night Of Thunder {Ire}), Skydance (GB) (Night Of Thunder {Ire}), Suzie Songs (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}). TDN Verdict: Significantly deeper than the Futurity, this stepping stone to the Moyglare features the standard-setting Silver Flash winner Composing, who bids to provide Aidan O'Brien with a 15th renewal and will be a warm order to do so. Skydance and Brownstown were well beaten at Leopardstown, but try again while the Anglesey Stakes winner Suzie Songs goes up in trip which shouldn't be any issue on pedigree. [Tom Frary]. Saturday, Deauville, France, post time: 15:50, JRA PRIX ALEC HEAD (PRIX DE POMONE)-G2, €119,000, 3yo/up, f/m, 12 1/2fT Field: Latakia (GB) (Frankel {GB}), Le Combat Continue (Fr) (De Treville {GB}), Happy Saxon (Fr) (Saxon Warrior {Jpn}), Bibbiena (Fr) (Doctor Dino {Fr}), Saxon Girl (Fr) (Saxon Warrior {Jpn}), Dare To Dream (Fr) (Camelot {GB}). TDN Verdict: Juddmonte's Latakia was adrift of Saxon Girl and Happy Saxon in June's Listed Prix Pawneese, but is on an upward curve and has recent form in the book, having annexed this month's Listed Prix Luth Enchantee at Clairefontaine. Wathnan Racing's Dare To Dream, winner of last term's G3 Prix Vanteaux, returns off a sixth in last month's G1 Grosser Dallmayr Preis and holds solid claims. Bibbiena has won four of six starts this year, but has not been seen since making a black-type breakthrough in May's Listed Prix Gold River. [Sean Cronin]. Saturday, York, post time: 13:50, THE SKY BET STRENSALL STAKES-G3, £170,000, 3yo/up, 8f 177yT Field: Boiling Point (Ire) (Too Darn Hot {GB}), Bullet Point (GB) (Advertise {GB}), Checkandchallenge (GB) (Fast Company {Ire}), King's Gambit (Ire) (Saxon Warrior {Jpn}), Skukuza (GB) (Blue Point {Ire}), Bowmark (GB) (Kingman {GB}), Gladius (Ire) (Night Of Thunder {Ire}), King Of Cities (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}). TDN Verdict: TDN Rising Star Bowmark probably found the Prix du Jockey Club too much to deal with at this early point of his career and has been given time to freshen up subsequently. The Goodwood handicap winner Gladius is ready for the step up and is another three-year-old with abundant potential, while last year's York Stakes runner-up and Great Voltigeur third King's Gambit is the pick of the older horses who obviously loves it here. [Tom Frary]. Saturday, Windsor, post time: 18:45, THE WEATHERBYS GLOBAL STALLIONS APP WINTER HILL STAKES-G3, £70,000, 3yo/up, 10fT Field: Military Order (Ire) (Frankel {GB}), Silawi (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), Devil's Advocate (GB) (Too Darn Hot {GB}), Great David (GB) (Ribchester {Ire}), Royal Playwright (GB) (Lope De Vega {Ire}). TDN Verdict: This looks an ideal opportunity for the consistent Military Order to get another Group win with the big cats away at York and elsewhere. His biggest concern may be the fellow Godolphin runner Devil's Advocate, who needs to get it together but who ran well enough to be fourth in the Dante over this trip to suggest there is talent there. [Tom Frary]. Saturday, York, post time: 16:45, THE JULIA GRAVES ROSES STAKES-Listed, £100,000, 2yo, 5fT Field: Dicksensian (GB) (Pinatubo {Ire}), Exclamation (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}), Kinnalargy (GB) (Havana Grey {GB}), Military Code (GB) (Wootton Bassett {GB}), Rydale Frosty (GB) (Havana Grey {GB}), Silent Applause (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}), Our Cody (Ire) (Kodi Bear {Ire}), Revival Power (Ire) (Bungle Inthejungle {Ire}), Zelaina (GB) (Mehmas {Ire}). TDN Verdict: The Windsor Castle runner-up and Molecomb third Dickensian sets the form standard, but there are several in here with potential including Revival Power, the full-sister to Winter Power who ran so well behind Spicy Marg in Goodwood's Alice Keppel. [Tom Frary]. Saturday, Deauville, France, post time: 13:58, CRITERIUM DU FONDS EUROPEEN DE L'ELEVAGE-Listed, €130,000, 2yo, 8fT Field: Campacite (Fr) (Zarak {Fr}), Dorado (Fr) (Romanised {Ire}), Waybreaker (Fr) (Galiway {GB}), Focus (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr}), Bandiagara (GB) (Zelzal {Fr}). TDN Verdict: Jean-Claude Rouget trainee Campacite took his record to two-from-three when stretching out to a mile at Saint-Cloud last month and sets the standard here. His main dangers are Listed Prix La Fleche fourth Focus, who goes beyond five furlongs for the first time here, and the unbeaten winner-of-one Waybreaker, who made a pleasing debut over 7 1/2 furlongs at this venue earlier in the month.
