He did it. The effort that goes into winning one race is tremendous. Winning the same race four years in a row? The stuff of Hollywood. Veteran Gold Phoenix (Ire) (g, 8, Belardo {Ire}–Magnifica, by Mizzen Mast) captured the GII Del Mar Handicap for the fourth consecutive year, earning a 'Win and You're In' berth to the GI Breeders' Cup Turf over this course Nov. 1. Stay Hot (Summer Front) finished second, while Atitlan (The Factor) was third.

Last seen finishing third in an optional allowance going a mile at Del Mar Aug. 9, Gold Phoenix has not won since last year's Del Mar Handicap. Saturday's win marks his ninth win from 27 career starts. He has tried the Breeders' Cup Turf the last three years as well, finishing fourth in both 2023 and 2024.
