Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted October 26 Journalists Posted October 26 Pin Oak Stud's Incredibolt (Bolt d'Oro) lived up to his name when rallying from last to surge past 7-5 favorite Universe (Global Campaign) in deep stretch and win Sunday's GIII Street Sense Stakes on opening day of Churchill Downs' 136th Fall Meet. Breaking from post 7 on the far outside, Incredibolt was wide into the first turn and unhurried in last early as unbeaten Ganaas (War Front) set modest early fractions of :24.29 and :48.83. Into the final turn, Incredibolt began to pick up the pace and zipped into fourth midway around the turn as Ganaas continued to show the way up front. At the head of the stretch, the rail-riding Ganaas and Universe ran in tandem as Incredibolt was four-wide several lengths behind the front-running duo. Drawing on par with Universe a sixteenth out, Incredibolt drove past his rival en route to a 1 3/4-length win. Very Connected (Connect) rounded out the trifecta. Ganaas faded to fifth. “He's really, really talented,” winning rider Jaime Torres said. “Earlier before his first start I told my agent he could be the next [Kentucky Derby and Belmont winner] Sovereignty. Even though he didn't win his first start, he's shown a lot of talent since.” Incredibolt earned 10 points on the Road to the Kentucky Derby series that will determine the preference list for the 20-horse 152nd GI Kentucky Derby on May 2. Points were awarded on a scale of 10-5-3-2-1 to the top five finishers. A first-out fourth while sprinting six panels at Ellis on Aug. 22, the Kentucky bred appreciated the extra yardage when winning going a mile at Churchill Downs on Sept. 28. The colt is trained by Riley Mott, son of Hall of Famer Bill Mott, who trains Sovereignty, winner of last year's Street Sense. “It's his second time winning here at Churchill and we're just delighted to have 10 points for the Kentucky Derby,” said Michael Hardy, Director of Farm Operations for Pin Oak Stud. “Hopefully, he can follow the path Sovereignty did.” Pedigree Notes: Incredibolt, out of the Awesome Again mare Sapphire Spitfire, was bred by Deann Baer and Greg Baer DVM. A half-brother to MGSP Fire On Time (Not This Time), Incredibolt brought $75,000 at last year's Keeneland September Sale. With the victory, Incredibolt becomes the ninth graded/group winner for Spendthrift Farm sire Bolt d'Oro.
