Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted 6 hours ago Journalists Posted 6 hours ago Editor's Note: Welcome to the first edition of 2026 Mating Plans, presented by Spendthrift. We kick off this year's series with a Thoroughbred breeder who is building an elite broodmare band, and always upgrading his stock. Pizza Bianca, 7, Fastnet Rock (Aus)-White Hot (Ire), by Galileo (Ire). Will be bred to Not This Time. A Breeders' Cup Champion deserves the best opportunity to produce another champion. Not This Time gets great horses on dirt and grass. This mating was a no-brainer. Go Go Boots (GB), Night ofThunder (Ire)-Hertford Dancer (GB), by Foxwedge (Aus). Will be bred to Frankel. This filly had her career shortened with an injury but she ran with the best fillies of her generation in the U.K. She gets a date with possibly the best horse ever. Street Strut, 13, Street Cry (Ire)-Lacadena, by Fasliyev. Will be bred to Omaha Beach. I was lucky enough to win a lottery ticket to Omaha Beach to move this winning half-sister to America up. This sire's babies are running off the screen at every track. Get a season if you can. Contemporary Art, 7, Dubawi (Ire)-Cover Song, Fastet Rock (Aus). Will be bred to Siyouni (Fr). This mare is from one of the best families in the world. She'll try France's best this year. Auld Alliance, 16, Montjeu (Ire)-Highland Gift (Ire), by Generous (Ire). Will be bred to Starspangledbanner (Aus). This proven Black-Type producer goes to maybe the most underrate sires in Europe. He continues to get horses at the highest levels. Glinting (Ire), 8, Galileo (Ire)-One Moment in Time (Ire), by Danehill. Will be bred to Sea The Stars (Ire). After three beautiful foals from the ill-fated Wootton Bassett, she switches to a sire that litters the classic entries with his progeny. Ottilien (Fr), 7, Holy Roman Emperor (Ire)-Vezina (Fr), by Bering (GB). Will be bred to No Nay Never. I love the first foal from this sire so we're going back. The mare is Group 1-placed. Lady Frankel (GB), 12, Frankel (GB)-Lady Vettori (GB), by Vettori (Ire). Will be bred to Kingman (GB). She's a sister to Lope de Vega and she has a couple of good looking progeny on the ground. The sire gives her a solid opportunity to breed something special. America, 15, A.P. Indy-Lacadena, by Fasliyev. Will be bred to Gun Runner. A full-brother to this mating sold at Saratoga as a yearling for $2.7 million to one of the sharpest owners in the game (Winchell Thoroughbreds). I see no reason to look elsewhere. American Caviar, 7, Curlin-America, by A.P. Indy. Will be bred to Nyquist. From America's family. This sire has the opportunity to scratch his way to number 1. Cover Song, 13, Fastnet Rock (Aus)-Misty for Me (Ire), by Galileo (Ire). Will be bred to Nyquist. The mare is a half-sister to Roly Poly and U S Navy Flag. The family is world-class and so is the sire as he's proving that he can get horses at the top level on all surfaces. Potion, 8, Ghostzapper-And Why Not, by Street Cy (Ire). Will be bred to McKinzie. The mare is from Helen Alexander's important breeding program. The sire is only going to become more popular. He's for real. Sedona, 5, Curlin-America, by A.P. Indy. Will be bred to Nyquist. Sedona is a $2 million yearling from America's family. Nyquist will give this young mare every chance for success.
