Lush Lips Makes It Three In A Row In The Honey Fox

Last year's GI Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Stakes winner LUSH LIPS (GB) (f, 4, Ten Sovereigns {Ire}–Lamyaa {GB}, by Arcano {Ire}) took on older fillies and mares for the first time Saturday, winning the GIII Honey Fox Stakes at Gulfstream Park to stretch her winning streak to three in a row.

Confidently handled by Tyler Gaffalione who picked up his second graded stakes win of the afternoon, the 8-5 favorite enjoyed a clear run down the outside from just off the pace as Classic Q (Classic Empire) was alert up front through fractions of :23.79 and :48.18.

The favorite, making her first start since winning the GII Mrs. Revere Stakes in November, was briefly caught on the back foot on the run into the far turn but had the class to make it up as the leaders hit the top of the stretch. Classic Q had first jump but the closers were coming and none faster than Lush Lips who ate into the deficit and pushed past in the shadow of the wire to win in a final time of 1.33.71.
