Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted February 14, 2019 Journalists Share Posted February 14, 2019 Argentinian champion Dona Bruja (Arg) (Storm Embrujado {Arg}–This Is Crazy {Aus}, by Nureyev) was retired from racing and will be bred to Empire Maker, according to trainer Ignacio Correas. Owned by Dom Felipe LLC, the bay won 11 of 19 starts for earnings of $639,068, and was crowned Argentina’s Mare of the Year and champion older mare prior to her move to America. “We sent her to the farm for a rest following her last start and to think about if we would leave her in training or retire her,” said Correas. “She is already 7-years-old and it is time for her to rest. Mr. [Ivan] Gasparotto is here and we made the decision together. She was a very special part of our history, and during the long time we had the chance to train her, she always showed us so much talent. We are very grateful to her for this amazing journey. It is a great satisfaction for all of us to retire her healthy.” Winner of the G1 Gran Premio Copa de Plata, at San Isidro, Dona Bruja won the GIII Old Forester Mint Julep H. at Churchill Downs in her first U.S. start in June of 2017 and followed suit with a win in the GIII Modesty H. at Arlinton. Second in that year’s GI Beverly D. S., Dona Bruja also won the 2018 GIII Endeavour S. and was second in last year’s GI First Lady S. at Keeneland, only a head behind A Raving Beauty (Mastercraftsman {Ire}).
