Last seen finishing second in the G1 St Leger at Doncaster in September, Sir Evelyn De Rothschild’s Crystal Ocean (GB) (Sea the Stars {Ire}) was even-money to provide Sir Michael Stoute with a ninth renewal of Sandown’s G3 bet365 Gordon Richards S. and duly delivered after a duel with Fabricate (GB) (Makfi {GB}). Settled second initially by Ryan Moore, the homebred was headed approaching two out and had to dig to get the better of that rival but managed it in the last half furlong en route to a short-head success.
