Soldier Hollow’s Axana Dominates the Schwarzgold-Rennen

Acquired by Team Valor after her success in the Listed Grosser Soldier Hollow Preis at Hannover in October, Axana (Ger) (Soldier Hollow {GB}) provided an instant healthy return on that investment with an authoritative success in Cologne’s G3 Karin Baronin von Ullmann – Schwarzgold-Rennen on Monday. Making her debut for the Andreas Wohler stable, having been handled by Jens Hirschberger at two, the 43-10 shot was a touch keen throughout the early stages in the hands of Eduardo Pedroza before being granted a lead. Sent back to the front with a decisive thrust approaching the two-furlong pole, the bay wrapped it up instantly and was way beyond recall as Anna Pivola (Ger) (Pivotal {GB}) stayed on to secure second, 2 3/4 lengths away at the line.

Axana, who has a 2-year-old full-sister in the wings, is out of a daughter of the GII Diana H. winner Via Borghese (Seattle Dancer), whose descendants include the GIII Oklahoma Derby scorer Tonito M (Rock Hard Ten) and the G1 Premier’s Champion S. third Solid Choice (Aus) (Redoute’s Choice {Aus}). The third dam is the G2 Premio Legnano winner Angela Serra (GB) (Arctic Tern), whose four stakes winners include Italy’s champion miler and sire Miswaki Tern (Miswaki), the GI Eddie Read H. runner-up and fellow sire El Angelo (El Gran Senor) and the G3 Prix du Bois scorer Porto Varas (Miswaki).
