Observations on the European Racing Scene turns the spotlight on the best European races of the day, highlighting well-pedigreed horses early in their careers, horses of note returning to action and young runners that achieved notable results in the sales ring. Wednesday’s Insights features a half-sister to the brilliant Lady Aurelia (Scat Daddy).

2.15 Ascot, Cond, £14,000, 2yo, 5fT
LADY PAULINE (Munnings) takes to the track at which she will hopefully be backing up her ‘TDN Rising Star’ tag at the Royal meeting next month. Stonestreet Stables’ homebred half-sister to the brilliant Lady Aurelia (Scat Daddy) romped to a 9 3/4-length debut win over a half-furlong shorter at Keeneland Apr. 5 and that kind of pace will see her nigh-on impossible to catch.
2.50 Ascot, Cond, £15,000, 3yo, f, 7f 213yT
QUEEN POWER (IRE) (Shamardal) makes her debut for the Sir Michael Stoute yard, having won for the Ralph Beckett stable on her sole start in a Newmarket maiden at this distance in October. King Power Racing’s 500,000gns TATOCT full-sister to the high-class G2 P B Lawrence S. winner Puissance de Lune (Ire) and half to the recent G3 Earlk of Sefton S. scorer Zabeel Prince (Ire) (Lope de Vega {Ire}) encounters another debut scorer in Andrew Rosen’s €400,000 Arqana May Breeze-Up graduate Fashion’s Star (Ire) (Sea the Stars {Ire}), a Roger Charlton-trained relative of the ‘TDN Rising Stars’ Hong Kong luminary Pakistan Star (Ger) (Shamardal), and Hidden Message (Scat Daddy), Qatar Racing’s William Haggas trainee who was only fifth when favourite for the G3 Oh So Sharp S.

5.00 Saint-Cloud, Cond, €30,000, 3yo, c/g, 8fT
ZARKALLANI (FR) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) bids to build on his narrow defeat on debut over this course and distance earlier this month and enhance the broodmare record of his illustrious dam Zarkava (Ire) (Zamindar). His Highness The Aga Khan’s March-foaled bay will be given plenty of time by the ever-patient Alain de Royer-Dupre, who conjured a G1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud triumph out of his half-brother Zarak (Fr) (Dubawi {Ire}) and a third placing in the G1 Prix Vermeille with his half-sister Zarkamiya (Fr) (Frankel {GB}).
