Lah Ti Dar Back To Winning Ways

John Gosden and Frankie Dettori just failed to provide the Lloyd-Webbers with a memorable double at York on Thursday, but the Dante runner-up Too Darn Hot’s full-sister Lah Ti Dar (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) upheld her part of the bargain in the G2 Al Basti Equiworld Middleton S. Hammered into 1-3 despite racing at a trip shy of her best on ground that was probably as quick as she would like, last year’s G1 St Leger runner-up had to dig deeper than her backers would have wanted to pull off the expected result. Seemingly travelling comfortably in third throughout the early stages, the homebred had to work to get past Sun Maiden (GB) (Frankel {GB}) with 2 1/2 furlongs remaining and after dealing with that Stoute trainee had a stronger one from Freemason Lodge to deal with in Rawdaa (GB) (Teofilo {Ire}). Headed briefly inside the final furlong, the ‘TDN Rising Star’ was on top from 100 yards out and eked out a neck success at the line.

Lah Ti Dar, who posted a 10-length success in the 12-furlong Listed Galtres S. here in August before her gallant second to Kew Gardens (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) at Doncaster and third in Ascot’s G1 Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares S., is bred to come into her own at four and five with her dam Dar Re Mi (GB) (Singspiel {Ire}) winning her Group 1s after her Classic season. We now know on Thursday’s evidence that she is more of a stayer than her effervescent full-brother and she will be asked to step in for the stable’s queen bee Enable (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire}) in the G1 Coronation Cup over a more suitable mile and a half at Epsom on May 31.

“It’s quick ground and she was running over short of her best–she’s a mile-and-a-half filly definitely, so I think she’s done rather well to win over that trip on summer ground,” her trainer said. “She can go to the Coronation Cup now. She’s game and very genuine and in good form, but that would not be her speciality today.”

Pedigree Notes

If successful in the Epsom contest, Lah Ti Dar would be emulating the family’s Daliapour (Ire) (Sadler’s Wells) who took the race for His Highness The Aga Khan in 2000. She is more in the mold of that strong-staying 12-furlong specialist and the likes of Rewilding (GB) (Tiger Hill {Ire}), her G1 Prix Vermeille-winning second dam Darara (Ire) (Top Ville {Ire}) and the latter’s G1 Prix du Jockey Club-winning champion half-brother and leading sire Darshaan (GB).
