Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted May 20, 2019 Journalists Share Posted May 20, 2019 Etoile (Fr) (Siyouni {Ire}) made up for the disappointment of losing her perfect record when running second last month’s G3 Prix Vanteaux at ParisLongchamp in her latest start by regaining the winning thread in Monday’s G3 Prix Cleopatre at Saint-Cloud. The bay, who had previously annexed 7 1/2-furlong heats at Cagnes-sur-Mer in January and February, raced under a taut rein in third for most of the 10 1/2-furlong contest. Fanning wide with all five rivals into the straight, the 2-1 second favourite loomed large at the quarter-mile marker and kept on strongly under mild urging once seizing control soon after to easily register a career high by 1 3/4 lengths from Villa d’Amore (Ire) (Mastercraftsman {Ire}). “She ran very well in the Vanteaux, this was even better and confirms what she had shown before,” said winning trainer Jean-Claude Rouget. “She’s relaxed and knows how to handle herself in a race. It was not a strong pace in the race, but I’m sure she stays this trip. I have a nice team of fillies this year, I already have three certain to go to the [June 16 G1] Prix de Diane [at Chantilly] and she will be the fourth. It’s a unique situation for me and, on form, all four have a serious chance.” Etoile, half-sister to a 2-year-old filly by Olympic Glory (Ire) and a yearling filly by Lethal Force (Ire), is the second foal and leading performer out of juvenile winner Milena’s Dream (Ire) (Authorized {Ire}), herself a great-granddaughter of G2 Prix d’Astarte victress Navratilovna (Nureyev).
