Observations on the European Racing Scene turns the spotlight on the best European races of the day, highlighting well-pedigreed horses early in their careers, horses of note returning to action and young runners that achieved notable results in the sales ring. Today’s Observations features the first foal of top mare Secret Gesture.

3.10 Goodwood, Mdn, £10,500, 2yo, f, 6fT
SILENT WAVE (GB) (War Front) is a significant debutante for Godolphin as the first foal out of the G2 Middleton S. winner and G1 Epsom Oaks runner-up Secret Gesture (GB) (Galileo {Ire}), who was also disqualified in the 2015 GI Beverly D. S. and placed on three other occasions at the top level. Charlie Appleby saddles the March-foaled bay, whose dam is also a full-sister to last year’s G2 Beresford S. scorer Japan (GB) and the smart Sir Isaac Newton (GB) and was bought by this operation for $3.5-million at Keeneland November in 2016.
