After a battle with deteriorating health, Tims died on Tuesday, just a couple of weeks after his 82nd birthday. A respected stockman and an all-round horseman, the Matamata dairy farmer was brought up with horses and initially enjoyed success in racing as an amateur rider, excelling over fences.
