Observations on the European Racing Scene turns the spotlight on the best European races of the day, highlighting well-pedigreed horses early in their careers, horses of note returning to action and young runners that achieved notable results in the sales ring. Today’s Observations features a son of American Pharoah from a Grade I-winning mare.

1.40 Newmarket, Novice, £8,000, 2yo, 7fT
SAQQARA KING (American Pharoah) was an eye-catcher when a close fourth on debut over 6 1/2 furlongs at Doncaster at the start of the month and normal improvement will see him hard to beat over this extra ground. Charlie Appleby saddles the son of the GI Santa Margarita Invitational S. winner Joyful Victory (Tapit) in a nine-runner affair, with the visiting Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle.
