Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted June 21, 2019 Journalists Share Posted June 21, 2019 The California Retirement Management Account (CARMA), a nonprofit dedicated to Thoroughbred aftercare, will be grabbing the bull by the horns this summer as it aims to rope it biggest and most lucrative fundraiser to date. ‘Hoedown for Horses’ will return Sunday, July 21 at Del Mar Racetrack. Funds raised will directly benefit the organization’s placement program and its grant process. “Our goal for the Hoedown is to raise a quarter of a million dollars for Thoroughbred aftercare and to host a feel-good, fun and memorable event,” said CARMA President Candace Coder-Chew. “This is our main fundraiser for the entire year. The donations we receive at this event directly impacts the number of retired racehorses we can help. We want everyone who loves horses to come out support them.” The hoedown will have attendees kicking up their heels as they cheer on the head-to-head jockey mechanical bull riding competition, dance to live country music performed by Jake Parr, feast on a barbecue buffet and soak in the good vibes of summer.
