Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted June 28, 2019 Journalists Share Posted June 28, 2019 Having cost just 55,000gns at Tattersalls October Book 2, Sheikh Hamed Dalmook Al Maktoum’s Ultra Violet (GB) (Gleneagles {Ire}) was not supposed to be pulling up trees as she appeared on Newmarket’s July Course as a 10-1 shot for the Techtrak British EBF Maiden Fillies’ S. What occurred over the next 73 seconds after she dawdled out of the stalls was a show of undeniable class as the Ed Vaughan trainee slammed her rivals by upwards of eight lengths over six furlongs to earn TDN Rising Star status. Keen initially after her tardy break, the bay stayed on the stand’s rail and despite showing understandable greenness on debut met the rising ground with a flourish that decided the contest a furlong from home. Rushing uphill to the line, she had demolished the hanging Game and Set (GB) (Zoffany {Ire}), with Airbrush (Ire) (Camacho {GB}) another 1 3/4 lengths away in third. “She finished off better than I expected,” Vaughan said. “She’s not the biggest filly in the world, but she handled the track well and is a hardy lady who eats well so the [G2] Duchess of Cambridge [S. July 12] is on the radar. She is so straightforward and had a good experience there, so why not?” Video, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
