Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted June 30, 2019 Journalists Share Posted June 30, 2019 High-priced and fast-working SCHRODINGER (c, 2, Justin Phillip–Cersei, by Malibu Moon)entered his debut at Los Alamitos with some buzz behind him and got the job done at very short odds Sunday. Opening at 1-9 before drifting up to 2-5 at the off, the dark bay was scrubbed on into second behind a :21.98 opening quarter and quickened to collar the pacesetter in upper stretch. He still had a long way to go from there, and at one point looked like he might get run down by Verified (Maclean’s Music), but found more in the tank late to stiff-arm that pursuer and prevail by 1 1/4 lengths in :57.21. A $70,000 Fasig-Tipton October yearling, Schrodinger blossomed into a $550,000 OBS March juvenile after covering a furlong in :9 4/5–quickest for that day of the breeze show and co-second-fastest for the auction overall. That was the highest price paid for a son or daughter of Grade I-winning sprinter and Castleton Lyons resident Justin Phillip at auction (See Callaghan, McElroy Get Big Breezer for more). Schrodinger is the second foal and first to race out of Grade I winner Oh What a Windfall (Seeking the Gold), who was carrying dam Cersei (Malibu Moon) when acquired for $510,000 at the 2010 Keeneland November Sale by Rene and Lauren Woolcott’s Woodslane Farm. Oh What a Windfall, bred and campaigned by Phipps Stable, is a full-sister to champion Heavenly Prize. This is also the loaded female family of Good Reward, Pure Prize, Dancing Spree, Furlough, Fantastic Find, Dancing Forever, et al. Cersei, who was unraced, most recently foaled a Street Sense filly Feb. 25. Sales history: $70,000 Ylg ’18 FTKOCT; $550,000 2yo ’19 OBSMAR. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0. O-Kaleem Shah Inc. B-Castleton Lyons (Ky). T-Simon Callaghan.
