Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted May 5, 2018 Journalists Share Posted May 5, 2018 AMERICAN GAL (f, 4, Concord Point–American Story, by Ghostzapper) overcame an awkward start, stalked a slow pace and kicked away in the stretch to earn her second top-level success in the GI Humana Distaff S. at Churchill. Placed in a pair of Grade I’s for Bob Baffert as a 2-year-old, the Kaleem Shah homebred romped in the GIII Victory Ride S. first out for this barn and repeated with a convincing success in the GI Longines Test S. next out. Fourth after disputing a fast pace in the blanket-finish GI Madison S. last out Apr. 7 at Keeneland, the bay was made a fractional second choice at 29-10 in this spot and broke way outwardly at the start. Recovering quickly though, she tracked the speed of Finley’sluckycharm (Twirling Candy), heretofore unbeaten at Churchill through a soft opening quarter of :23.03. Inheriting the lead soon after straightening once that one dropped away, American Gal kicked away into the final furlong and held Ivy Bell (Ghostzapper) at bay to score by 1 3/4 lengths in 1:22.33 over the muddy going. Lifetime Record: 8-5-1-1, $902,700. O/B-Kaleem Shah Inc.; T-Simon Callaghan. View the full article
