Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted July 27, 2019 Journalists Share Posted July 27, 2019 One-time claimer Tax (3, c, Arch–Toll, by Giant’s Causeway) took advantage of a moderate early pace to earn his second graded career victory in Saturday’s GII Jim Dandy S. at Saratoga. Tax broke sharply and raced to the front, leading GI Preakness S. winner War of Will (War Front) and Global Campaign (Curlin) through an opening quarter in :24.89. While the Classic winner was hard to contain, Tax proved more complacent, allowing his rival to overtake him as the new leader completed a half in :48.80. War of Will continued to lead as he rounded out three quarters in 1:12.43, but both Tax and Global Campaign were now exerting pressure as Tacitus, who was hustled hard to get into position following his disastrous start, was hemmed in along the inside behind the weakening frontrunner. Tax confronted the Mark Casse runner turning for home, and inched away, while Tacitus finally found running room, driving past War of Will’s right shoulder and trying to come up the inside of the free-running Tax. Seemingly unwilling to squeeze through along Tax’s inside, Tacitus couldn’t make up the difference late and had to settle for second behind Tax. Final time for the nine furlong test was 1:49.28. Lifetime Record: 8-3-2-1, $786,300. O-RA Hill, Reeves Tbreds Racing; Hugh Lynch and Corms Racing; B-Claiborne Farm and Adele Dilschneider (KY); T-Danny Gargan.
