Ollie’s Candy (f, 3, Candy Ride {Arg}–Afternoon Stroll, by Stroll), sent off at 4-1 in Sunday’s GI Clement L. Hirsch S., took the lead soon after the start, and despite a serious challenge from favored Secret Spice (Discreet Cat) in the stretch, she came back to eke out a narrow score. In front through early splits of :23.05 and :46.68, last year’s winner of the GII Summertime Oaks was in charge turning for home, but was soon tackled by GI Beholder Mile victress Secret Spice, who ranged up to her outside exiting the home turn. Briefly headed by the 6-5 choice in the lane, Ollie’s Candy fought back bravely late to collect her first taste at the highest level. Secret Spice bested La Force (Ger), who closed to be third. Final time for the 8 1/2-furlong test was 1:44.66. Lifetime Record: 8-4-3-0, $452,151.
