Todd will go in to the meeting one win short of setting a personal best for wins in a season and two victories short of reaching 100 career wins. The trainer complete both of those milestones with his two runners at Oamaru in Champers in race 3 and That Alexander Guy in race 6. Champers looks perfectly placed to help Todd chase down his late season goals in maiden company. The 3yr-old looks to be taking on a moderate line up after placing in stronger maiden fields in Canterbury in her last two starts. “It looks like a nice race for her,” Todd said. “She wouldn’t have to do too much more than she has been doing to be thereabouts.” Though she more than seven lengths behind the winner, Todd was pleased with Champers’ last start third at Rangiora. “War Hero was quite a smart 3yr-old earlier in the season and Matt Damon is quite a nice horse too.” Sacred Stiff looks one of the main dangers to Champers in tomorrow’s 2600m standing start. The Terry and Glenys Chmiel trained 2yr-old impressed when reeling off a 56.5sec last 800m to win his qualifying trial at Ashburton late last month. Been To Jenny’s looks another strong player in race 3. The Kyle Cameron trained pacer performed well without receiving many favours on the recent two day meeting at Marlborough. That Alexander Guy will have his first official start for Todd after winning and running third at Marlborough. The pacer has been in Todd’s care to take advantage of his beach training facilities while starting for Dean Taylor’s stable. That Alexander Guy’s last start victory sees him rise in grade to clash with a handy line up on Sunday. Todd expects the horse to be a place hope. “He had a freshen up after Blenheim.” “He is no superstar, but he has got a nice draw to work from and he will be a place chance.” Montefalco and Major Deal look the major players in race 6. The pair fought out the finish of their last starts at Addington. Major Deal produced a big finish from rear of the field to finish four lengths behind Montefalco.
