Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted August 3, 2019 Journalists Share Posted August 3, 2019 ‘TDN Rising Star’ McKinzie (c, 4, Street Sense–Runway Model, by Petionville) gave Hall of Famer Bob Baffert his first win in Saratoga’s prestigious GI Whitney S., a ‘Win and You’re In’ for the GI Breeders’ Cup Classic, Saturday afternoon. The 4-5 favorite briefly led the field into the clubhouse turn, but conceded to GII Suburban S. winner Preservationist (Arch). Re-guided to the outside by Mike Smith, he sat a tracking second through a half mile in :47.48. The bay took a narrow advantage as they lined up at the top of the stretch and the MGISW showed his class from there, kicking home a two-length winner. Yoshida (Jpn) (Heart’s Cry {Jpn}) was second; Vino Rosso (Curlin) was third. McKinzie, winner of last term’s GI Pennsylvania Derby and GI Malibu S., entered off a troubled second in the GI Runhappy Metropolitan H. at Belmont Park June 8.
