Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted August 14, 2019 Journalists Share Posted August 14, 2019 Kimari first put her dazzling speed on display in her debut performance Apr. 25 at Keeneland when she annihilated a field of maidens by 15-lengths on her way to ‘TDN Rising Star-dom’. The filly impressed her trainer enough to warrant a trip overseas to Royal Ascot and the bay was beaten a head for the win in the G2 Queen Mary S. Back on American soil, the $152,000 FTKJUL purchase rocketed out of the barrier and battled between foes for the early lead. Blistering a quarter-mile in :21.55, Kimari seized the advantage as she rattled off a half in :44.54. Pressured by rivals down the lane, she hit a second gear at the eighth pole and surged to the wire well in hand. “She had been training real well,” said Wesley Ward assistant Ollie Sangster. “She showed us what we always had seen. We were a bit disappointed to get beat at Ascot, but they had a lot of rain, which wasn’t to her liking, but she still ran a big race. She showed us what she was made of today.” Kimari is out the graded stakes winning mare Cozze Up Lady, who was acquired by China Horse Club for $300,000 at the 2014 Fasig-Tipton November Sale. She has a yearling colt by Exaggerator and foaled a colt by Quality Road this year. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
