Here are a pair horses of interest for this weekend running at Kokura Racecourse, including the very exciting and very fast Mont Perdu (Cairo Prince). Sunday’s Notable US-Breds in Japan will appear in Saturday’s TDN: Saturday, August 17, 20195th-KOK, ¥13,400,000 ($126k), Newcomers, 2yo, 1200mT KOEI BAKUSHIN (c, 2, Shakin It Up–D’ Chili Pepper, by D’wildcat) becomes the first Japanese starter for his sire, winner of the GI Malibu S. in 2013. The second foal to race from his dam, the dark bay fetched $12K as an OBS October yearling, but made for a solid pinhook when hammering to Hideyuki Mori for $115K at OBS March this spring after breezing an eighth of a mile in :10 flat. B-Don & Pam Mattox (KY) 11th-KOK, ¥34,200,000 ($322k), Allowance, 3yo/up, 1000m MONT PERDU (f, 3, Cairo Prince–Spanish Post, by Flatter), a $115K Fasig-Tipton NY-Bred Sales grad turned $325K FTFMAR juvenile, has earned a big reputation in a short time, with three wins from five career starts, including a track record-setting performance when last seen at Chukyo July 7 (see below, gate 9). Customarily quick from the stalls, she should be suited by this minimum trip. Mont Perdu’s Not This Time half-sister, also a New York-bred, is cataloged as hip 2214 to the upcoming Keeneland September sale.
