Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted September 5, 2019 Journalists Share Posted September 5, 2019 Popular Saratoga restaurant Salt and Char by The Adelphi Hotel raised $2,500 to benefit the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund through its 1st Annual Jockey Burger Fundraiser this summer. For each week during the Saratoga racing season, a special “Signature Jockey Burger” was created by a famous jockey in collaboration with Salt and Char’s Executive Chef Chris Bonnivier. It was then featured on the restaurant’s menu, with 25% of the proceeds being donated to the charity. “I and my family hold a very special place in our hearts for the Permanently Disabled Jockey Fund and share a deep respect for the invaluable work they do,” said Larry Roth, who along with owning The Adelphi Hotel and Salt and Char, is the owner of LNJ Foxwoods Stables, which matched the $1,250 raised, bringing the total donation to $2,500. To kick off the seven-week series, the legendary Angel Cordero hosted a draw party on the Salt and Char veranda, along with six surprise guest jockeys, to determine which week their burgers would be featured. Other participating jockeys included Junior Alvarado, Luis Reyes, Jose Ortiz, Irad Ortiz, Jr., Manny Franco and John Velazquez. “I look forward to working together with my friends at Salt and Char for many seasons to come to help my fellow jockeys who have suffered greatly,” said Cordero.
