Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted September 6, 2019 Journalists Share Posted September 6, 2019 Imprimis (Broken Vow) has proven himself a model of consistency over the past two season, finishing better than third in seven of 10 trips to the post. Victorious in a pair of stakes last season, including the more recent of the two in Monmouth’s Wolf Hill S. In July, he rounded out the season with a fourth–beaten only 3/4 of a length–in Parx’s five furlong GIII Turf Monster S. in September. Kicking off the season with a pair of consecutive wins in Gulfstream’s Silks Run S. Mar. 9 and the Apr. 6 GII Shakertown S. at Keeneland, the Breeze Easy-owned gelding was ambitiously placed in the G1 King’s Stand S. at Royal Ascot in June, finishing sixth, beaten less than five lengths. Paco Lopez, aboard for both wins this term, gets the call this time. Leinstar (Majestic Warrior), runner up in three of five starts on the dirt for trainer D. Wayne Lukas last season, finished ninth marking his debut for Rusty Arnold in a grass maiden at Gulfstream in January before finishing second in a six-furlong sprint at the Hallandale oval Feb. 21. Back to the turf next time, he came from just off the pace to score going 5 ½ furlongs in a Keeneland allowance Apr. 18 before adding another in a $62,500 optional claimer at Churchill Downs June 28. Employing similar tactics under Tyler Gaffalione last time out, the bay took the Aug. 3 GIII Troy S. at Saratoga and the duo team up again here. Stormy Liberal (Stormy Atlantic) recorded four straight victories in 2018, including the 6 1/2-furlong GIII Eddie D. S. in September before culminating the season with a neck victory over favored World of Trouble (Kantharos) in a soggy renewal of the GI Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint at Churchill Downs. Runner up in Santa Anita’s Jan. 1 GIII Joe Hernadez S., the Peter Miller trainee set the pace but was headed late to finish second in a five-furlong allowance test there Feb. 11 while prepping for another go at Meydan’s G1 Al Quoz Sprint, a race he finished second in last year. Third in Dubai in March, Stormy Liberal was given plenty of time to recover before resurfacing with another third in Del Mar’s Green Flash S. Aug. 17.
