Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted October 2, 2019 Journalists Share Posted October 2, 2019 British racing has been warned to “start making plans” in case of a no-deal Brexit. The Thoroughbred Brexit Steering Group has issued a note to the industry as the United Kingdom’s scheduled departure from the European Union on Oct. 31 draws closer. It said it “strongly advises that all industry participants read the guidance that is available, and start making plans for how a no-deal Brexit might affect them.” The note warns the final outcome of the negotiations between the UK and EU may not become clear until on, or very close to, the Oct. 31 deadline. Free movement of racehorses and breeding stock between the UK and EU, which had been covered in the Tripartite Agreement, will cease to apply in the event of no-deal Brexit, so the group has underlined forward planning is a necessity. Other areas mentioned in the guidance included the rights of EU and European Economic Area workers in British racing and breeding, recognition of the General Stud Book by the EU, VAT, provision of veterinary medicines and data sharing between regulators.
