Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted October 5, 2019 Journalists Share Posted October 5, 2019 Sunday’s $200,000 Indian Summer S. at Keeneland offers the winner a fees-paid berth into the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint and barring something unforseen, the winner should come from those horses in the first five gates from the rail out. Kimari (Munnings) exploded onto the scene during the Keeneland spring meeting, rocketing home to break her maiden against males by 15 lengths over the main track Apr. 25. Part of the Wesley Ward team sent across for Royal Ascot, the $152,000 Fasig-Tipton July grad led for the opening half-mile of the G2 Queen Mary S. June 19 and fought on bravely to miss by a head in second to Raffle Prize (Ire) (Slade Power {Ire}), who has since added the G2 Duchess of Cambridge S. and was second in the G1 Prix Morny and G1 Cheveley Park S. Kimari was most recently the four-length winner of Saratoga’s Bolton Landing S. Aug. 14, besting next-out GI Natalma S. winner Abscond (Blame). Kimari will leave from the two hole beneath Mike Smith. Live Oak homebred Old Chestnut (Speightstown) was well down the field on debut in the July 7 Victoria S. on the Woodbine Poly, but has sparkled in two turf appearances since then. The son of the classy Pool Land (Silver Deputy) wired a group of maidens by three lengths in a five-furlong test over the Woodbine inner turf Aug. 9 and made it two in a row in the Ontario Racing S. Sept. 15, scoring by 3 3/4 front-running lengths. Old Chestnut has the inside stall. Mystic Lancelot (Into Mischief) downed a three next-out winners, including the aforementioned Art Collector (Bernardini) in romping home by three lengths in a 5 1/2-furlong test at the Spa Aug. 15, but he disappointed as the 2-1 favorite in the Summer S., beating just one home in ninth. The blinkers go on for this cutback in trip. Fast Scene (Fast Anna) also takes on the boys here, having handled her peers in the July 6 My Dear S. on the synth and in the Woodbine Cares S. in her turf debut Sept. 15. She should be part of the early pace from gate five.
