Majesticperfection’s Bell’s The One Pulls The Raven Run Upset

A backed-down 13-1 as they sprung the latch for Saturday’s GII Lexus Raven Run S. at Keeneland, Lothenbach Stables’ BELL’S THE ONE (f, 3, Majesticperfection-Street Mate, by Street Cry {Ire}) caboosed the field for the first half of the seven-furlong affair, pinched plenty of ground with an inside run leaving the three-eighths marker, was pulled out widest of all entering the stretch and outfought California raider First Star (First Dude) for the victory. Switched off nicely at the tail for Corey Lanerie, the $155,000 Fasig-Tipton July yearling purchase took her cue at the half-mile pole and slid up the fence traveling ominously well as they neared the quarter pole. Guided outside, she closed off well to score by about two lengths. Favored Indian Pride (Proud Citizen) missed the break completely, then rushed up into it to fight out the fractions. She appeared a spent force passing midstretch, but managed to cling on gamely for third. Bell’s The One had run well at the tricky seven-furlong trip earlier this season, finishing runner-up to then undefeated Break Even (Country Day) in the GIII Eight Belles S. at Churchill and was most recently runner-up to likely GI Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint favorite Covfefe (Into Mischief) in the Dogwood S. at Churchill Downs. Even her effort in the GI Acorn S. was not without merit, as she made eyecatching progress into the final quarter-mile before flattening out late to finish seventh.
