Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted October 20, 2019 Journalists Share Posted October 20, 2019 Multiple graded stakes winner Flameaway (Scat Daddy–Vulcan Rose, by Fusaichi Pegasus) has been retired from racing and will stand the 2020 breeding season at Darby Dan Farm in a deal brokered by Matt Bowling. Flameaway will stand his initial season at stud for $7,500 S&N. An earner of $911,634 for owner John Oxley and trainer Mark Casse, Flameaway was a stakes winner each year he raced from ages two to four, winning on traditional dirt, turf, and synthetic surfaces at distances from 4 1/2 furlongs to 1 1/16 miles. “We are excited to stand Flameaway, a versatile and talented son of Scat Daddy,” said Ryan Norton, stallion director at Darby Dan Farm. “He possesses a stallion’s pedigree; he was precocious, proven over all surfaces, and won sprinting and routing against some of the top runners of his generation.” All told, Flameaway won five stakes, including the GIII Dixiana Bourbon S. at Keeneland and Saratoga’s Skidmore S. at two after breaking his maiden on debut. The following season at three, he captured the GIII Sam F. Davis S. at Tampa Bay Downs, defeating future Grade I winners Catholic Boy (More Than Ready) and Vino Rosso (Curlin), as well as the Kitten’s Joy S. on turf at Gulfstream Park in his seasonal bow. The chestnut also finished runner-up in the GII Toyota Blue Grass S., GII Jim Dandy S. GII Tampa Bay Derby as a sophomore. Bred by Phoenix Rising Farms, Flameaway was a $400,000 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Sale yearling and he retires with a record of 18-6-3-1. He has taken up residence at Darby Dan Farm and is available for inspection.
