The Shark goes in search of winners at a Twilight harness racing meeting for the Oamaru Harness Racing Club today.

Race 1

2 Crazy N Love: Qualified in pretty impressive fashion and hailing from a strike-rate stable. Has to be a big chance on debut if the occasion doesn’t become too much.

1 Mono Gamble: Solid in last couple of races in much stronger fields than this. Should measure up to them today provided there’s a quick beginning.

8 Aveross Majesty: Has the motor, but still getting the head in the game at times. Could roll this field if in the right mood and doing things right.

11 Same: Respect the stable any time they line something up. Tidy trial effort in a good field recently. Not the worst here in a fresh state.

Race 2

5 With The Stars: Traffic issues at Forbury last week and might have gone close without them. No star, but closing in on a maiden success.

6 Comfortably Numb: Money has come again despite poor effort at Addington. There’s something there though, you just don’t want the odds to be too short.

1 Melody Pond: Now in the Hope barn which raises an eyebrow. Good draw and even looking field says that the watch is on here today.

2 Fraud: Not bad in a few runs for new barn, all from tricky draws. Could get a slice from the handy marble here.

Selections: 5-6-1-2

Race 3

6 Diamond Party: Green, but very good for third in a hot field on debut. This looks like it should pan out nicely. A good bet early on in the day.

4 Pink Flamingo Run: Didn’t set the world alight on debut, but wasn’t far away from them either. This looks a little easier. Right man in the bike.

5 Pay Me Smart: Penny looks to have dropped based on last two runs. Excellent late at Forbury last time out. No reason why he couldn’t place again.

2 Mongolian Conqueror: Has the motor, but debut effort was poor. Trainer jumps in the bike so interesting to see if he gets the necessary out of him.

Selections: 6-4-5-2

Race 4

13 Darry Kerrigan: Made to work to find the lead at Timaru and fought bravely for second. Tricky off the unruly but could grind them into the dirt here.

11 Panda Girl: Not the worst based on fresh up run and nice trial effort since then too. Even looking field so has a good chance.

6 Missmollygoodgolly: Showed a bit of speed to sneak up the lane from well back and win recent trial at Ashburton. Might be good enough to win this on that run.

5 Shesheartandsole: Two runs back from the break have been full of merit. Even field here and a handy draw bring her right into contention.

Selections: 13-11-6-5

Race 5

7 Eastwood Isabella: Meets a very even looking field tonight and front line draw a big key too. Second to a talented one three back is a good pointer for this.

10 Bound To Impress: More bad luck than good in the career so far but was very handy in a much stronger race at Addington last Friday night. Each way.

8 The Go To Man: Might not be the worst here in a fresh state. Ran some nice races last campaign and could be the surprise packet today.

2 Vigoroso: Tends to hold his form a bit and was pretty handy at Forbury last week. Orange sticks with the ship too so there might be a pointer in that.

Selections: 7-10-8-2

Race 6

7 Chevron Flies: Magic on debut but nothing next up after working hard. This is easier and might demand a little more respect here too. Should win it.

3 With The Band: Gate speed horse who should find the early lead here and if able to get onto the back of the right one can fill a placing.

4 Delightful Tanner: Bounced back with a good second at Methven last time out. Goes well here and even field gives a good chance of getting a slice.

10 Immortal Change: Fiven a freshen up and does go OK in that state. Stable is kicking a few goals so no surprise to see a big run here today.

Selections: 7-3-4-10

Race 7

2 Fanny Hill: Big money came fresh up after strong push from trainer but early galloped put it all to bed. Money will come again, it’s all on the manners.

10 Phoebe Onyx: Resumed with two really good thirds in strong races at Addington. Looks nicely placed here and can give them a fright.

9 Baxter: Talented type back from a spell. Manners will be the key but everything else should be there. Could step up and bolt in. Who knows.

13 Rydgemont Son: Manners have been very good in last couple and building in confidence. Too good to leave out in a field like this.

Selections: 2-10-9-13

Race 8

5 Alta Endeavour: Big win last time out and looks a horse who might go on with it. Not a deep field so should be right in the middle of it all.

3 Portalegre: Taken on some hot fields recently and will relish this opportunity here today, especially from a handy draw. Big chance of getting back in the positive.

4 Donegal Gilbert: Nice type back from a spell and the workout and trials form has been good. Astute stable will have things ready to rock and roll.

6 Mr Midnight: Grinding type who might try and put them to the sword here. Dangerous if he does as these are the right kind of races for him.

Selections: 5-3-4-6

Race 9

9 Standout: Not much has gone right in last few runs but prior to that was excellent including good second behind Taxman here three back. Gets his chance today.

2 Shadow Minister: Was very handy at Methven when finishing fifth. All around the action at the moment and due a winning turn.

11 King Of Heroes: In good form and often in better races than this too. Off the second line but still could give them a real shake up here.

1 Pocket Watch: Not the worst in this, especially from the handy draw. Likely to land near to the speed and can rush at them late with a sweet trip.

Selections: 9-2-11-1

BEST: 7 Eastwood Isabella (Race 5)

NEXT: 7 Chevron Flies (Race 6)

VALUE: 9 Standout (Race 9)
