Sire of recent Grade I winner Mongolian Groom, Hightail (Mineshaft–Stormy Renee, by Storm Cat) is returning to Calumet Farm for the 2020 breeding season. The 9-year-old campaigned during his racing career for Calumet and entered stud there in 2013 before relocating to Trophy Club Training Center in Arkansas in 2015.

“He has proven that he can sire a Grade I horse on a limited sample size,” said Calumet Farm Director of Stallions, Jak Knelman. “With small crops and only 9 starters, producing a Grade I winner and two stakes winners, each with earnings of over $500,000, is a significant feat.”

Mongolian Groom became Hightail’s first top-level winner in the Awesome Again S. Sept. 28 at Santa Anita, defeating likely GI Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic favorite McKinzie (Street Sense) while posting a 110 Beyer. The two are expected to rematch in the Classic. Also sired by Hightail, Dynatail is a multiple stakes winner with earnings of $529,710.

“As the winner of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint, Hightail offers the breeder both precocity and speed. He is also demonstrating that his progeny can carry that speed at a distance and continue to develop with age,” added Knelman.

Hightail’s 2020 stud fee will be announced at a later date.
