Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted October 24, 2019 Journalists Share Posted October 24, 2019 In this continuing series, we take a look ahead at US-bred and/or conceived runners entered for the upcoming weekend at the tracks on the Japan Racing Association circuit, with a focus on pedigree and/or performance in the sales ring. Here are the horses of interest for this weekend running Niigata and Tokyo Racecourses, including the second most-expensive yearling from the first crop of Triple Crown winner American Pharoah: Saturday, October 26, 20196th-TOK, ¥13,400,000 ($123k), Newcomers, 2yo, 1600m DANON PHAROAH (JPN) (c, 2, American Pharoah–Crisp, by El Corredor) is a son of the 2010 GI Santa Anita Oaks winner Crisp, who was purchased by Katsumi Yoshida for $350,000 carrying this foal in utero at the 2016 Keeneland November sale. The May foal was the lone representative for his sire at the 2018 JHRA Select Yearling Sale and his hammer price of ¥180 million (about $1,629,000) was the second priciest of American Pharoah’s 67 first-crop yearlings to sell last year. The colt’s SW & GSP second dam Aurora (Danzig) is responsible for GISWs Arch (Roberto), Acoma (Empire Maker) and Antics (Unbridled), whose GISW daughter Covfefe (Into Mischief) is the likely favorite for the GI Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint next weekend.
