Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted November 2, 2019 Journalists Share Posted November 2, 2019 Europe’s final Group 1 of 2019 is staged at Munich on Sunday, with the Grosser Preis von Bayern looking lopsided in favour of the fillies. Darius Racing’s Donjah (Ger) (Teofilo {Ire}) is arguably the pick, with her last three outings yielding a second in the Sept. 1 G1 Grosser Preis von Baden, a third in the G1 Preis von Europa at Cologne three weeks later and a win in the San Siro’s G2 Gran Premio del Jockey Club Oct. 20. The 3-year-old is tackled again by her year-older compatriot Amorella (Ire) (Nathaniel {Ire}), who had Donjah a half length behind when runner-up in the Preis von Europa having won the G2 T von Zastrow Stutenpreis at Baden-Baden Aug. 31. Ralph Beckett supplies two 3-year-old fillies by Lope de Vega (Ire) racing in the Waverley Racing silks, with Harry Bentley on Antonia de Vega (Ire) who was sixth after a lengthy lay-off in the G1 British Champions Fillies & Mares S. at Ascot Oct. 19. Manuela de Vega’s best effort came when second to Enbihaar (Ire) (Redoute’s Choice {Aus}) in the G2 Lillie Langtry S. over 14 furlongs at Goodwood Aug. 3, so a stiff stamina test at this shorter trip will help. One of the unexposed colts in the line-up is Rennstall Gestut Hachtsee’s possibly aptly-named Ladykiller (Ger) (Kamsin {Ger}), who comes into this on the back of a win in the 15-furlong G3 Silbernes Pferd at Hoppegarten Oct. 13. Rome’s Capannelle Racecourse stages a marquee card as well, with the G2 Premio Roma and the G2 Premio Lydia Tesio the headliners of five group races. In the former, French raider Skalleti (Fr) (Kendargent {Fr}) looms large as he searches for his seventh straight win for Jerome Reynier with the red-hot Pierre-Charles Boudot in the saddle. Skalleti comes into this off a win in the G2 Prix Dollar on Oct. 5. Just four locally trained challengers take him on, including the 3-year-olds Frozen Juke (Ire) (Frozen Power {Ire}) and Thunderman (Ity) (Blu Air Force {Ire}). The former rebounded off a fourth-place finish in the G2 Derby Italiano on May 19 to win an allowance race over this course on Oct. 22, while Thunderman enters this off a pair of listed wins at San Siro and Rome on Sept. 1 and 29. In the Lydia Tesio, Call Me Love (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) was third against the colts in the Derby Italiano and lines up here off a win in the G3 Premio Verziere-Aldo Cirla going 2000 metres. The foreign raiding party will not allow her job to be easy, however. They include Joseph O’Brien’s Waitingfortheday (Ire) (Elzaam {Aus}), who beat the champion 2-year-old filly Skitter Scatter (Scat Daddy) in the G3 Fairy Bridge S. in August before finishing fourth in the G2 Blandford S. up in trip on Sept. 15., and Robert Collet’s stakes-winning Lanana (Fr) (Sepoy {Aus}).
