Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted November 2, 2019 Journalists Share Posted November 2, 2019 SPUN TO RUN (c, 3, Hard Spun–Yawkey Way, by Grand Slam) went straight to the front and never looked back to take the GI Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile. Hustled from the stalls to take immediate control under Irad Ortiz, the 9-1 chance clicked off opening splits of :23.05 and :46.51 with Korean shipper Blue Chipper (Tiznow) shadowing in second. Drifting out a few paths in the lane, he maintained a clear lead and was guided back to the rail by Ortiz en route to a decisive victory in 1:36.58. Even-money favorite Omaha Beach (War Front) was a step slow from the stalls and raced well back off the early pace, but was the only one making up ground late to be second. Blue Chipper held third. Third in the GI Haskell Invitational S. July 20, Spun to Run won the GIII Smarty Jones S. next out Sept. 2. Fifth in the GI Pennsylvania Derby, he entered off a 6 3/4-length romp in Appreciation Mile S. at Parx, earning a gaudy 110 Beyer Speed Figure in the process. Lifetime Record: 11-5-1-3. O-Robert Donaldson; B-Sabana Farm (KY); T-Juan Carlos Guerrero.
