Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted November 2, 2019 Journalists Share Posted November 2, 2019 IRIDESSA (IRE) (Ruler of The World {Ire}–Senta’s Dream {GB}, by Danehill) outslugs California turf queen Vasilika (Skipshot) for a narrow upset in the GI Breeders’ Cup F/M Turf. Receiving Lasix for the first time, the 13-1 shot tracked from several lengths back in third and GI Rodeo Drive S. winner Mirth (Colonel John) was very loose on the lead, clocking splits of :23.45 and :46.45 while 10 lengths clear of MGISW Vasilika. Champion Sistercharlie (Ire) (Myboycharlie {Ire}) race off the rail in mid-pack, keeping a close eye on Vasilika and Iridessa. Closing in on the pacesetter at the top of the lane, Iridessa and Vasilika pounced on Mirth together and that duo battled stride-for-stride to the wire with the younger Iridessa getting her head in front at the line in 1:57.77. Sistercharlie rounded out the trifecta. It was the first Breeders’ Cup win as a trainer for Joseph O’Brien. Iridessa is the third sophomore to win at the World Championships Saturday. Winner of the G1 Juddmonte Pretty Polly S. June 28, Iridessa was seventh in the G1 Irish Oaks July 20 and returned to winning ways in the G1 Matron S. Sept. 14.
