Online voting has begin for the 10th annual winner of the Secretariat Vox Populi Award, or “voice of the people,” an award which recognized the racehorse who most resounded with the public and gained recognition for horse racing during the year.

This year’s nominees are Belvoir Bay (GB) (Equiano {Fr}), who won the GI Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint a little less than two years after being caught up in the San Luis Rey wildfire; Bricks and Mortar (Giant’s Causeway), who capped an undefeated season in the GI Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf; Maximum Security (New Year’s Day), a dual Grade I winner this season and disqualified from first in the GI Kentucky Derby; Midnight Bisou (Midnight Lute), who suffered her first defeat of the season in the GI Longines Breeders’ Cup Distaff; Mitole (Eskendereya), victorious in the GI Breeders’ Cup Sprint over the weekend; and Omaha Beach (War Front), a dual Grade I winner and recent runner-up in the GI Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile last Saturday.

“This year’s Vox Populi recipient will be the 10th winner to be honored with this award since my mother established it in 2010,” said Kate Chenery Tweedy, daughter of Penny Chenery. “Since then, the Secretariat Vox Populi award has recognized a diverse field that has included both unsung heroes and celebrated champions, and all have been acknowledged for their excellence on the track and the connection they’ve made with racing fans. My mother understood that racing’s heartbeat is its fans and the love they have for the horses, and our family is proud to continue in this tradition.”

Fans may cast a vote through Nov. 20 for the Vox Populi Award at Secretariat.com or at AmericasBestRacing.net. Previous winners of the Vox Populi include Winx (Aus) (2018); American Pharoah (2015); and inaugural winner Zenyatta (2010).
