Carrying the silks of Tony Wechsler and Ann Plummer, the Charlie Hills charge won the G3 Acomb S. at two and was Group 1-placed behind Too Darn Hot (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) and Magna Grecia (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}). He won the Irish Guineas on seasonal debut this year, besting his old rival Too Darn Hot by three lengths. “We expect breeders to be bowled over by Phoenix of Spain’s physicality,” said the Irish National Stud’s Cathal Beale. “He’s a strong, correct horse with an amazing walk.” Invincible Spirit (Ire) once again heads the roster, and he will stand for €100,000 in 2020. Free Eagle (Ire), sire of the stakes-winning Justifier (Ire) in his first crop this year, is available for €12,500, while two stallions with their first foals of 2019, Decorated Knight (GB) (Galileo {Ire}) and National Defense (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}), will stand for €9,000 and €8,000, respectively.
