Hammered into 3-5 favoritism at first asking with some strong morning trials on display, AUTHENTIC (c, 2, Into Mischief–Flawless, by Mr. Greeley) overcame a bit of an awkward departure to win very nicely Saturday afternoon at Del Mar. Off in a bit of a tangle, the May foal, who entered this debut off a best-of-42 five furlongs from the gate at Santa Anita in 1:00 flat Oct. 31, was hustled along to make up for lost time and sat just outside of the pacesetter into the turn. Asked to kick off the final corner, the $350,000 KEESEP purchase opened a bit of daylight and finished up well to defeat Jeffn’johnsthundr (Union Rags) by about two lengths. From the family of GISW Seventh Street (Street Cry {Ire}) and Dubai legend Reynaldothewizard (Speightstown), Authentic is related to the yearling colt Mint (Bodemeister) and a colt foal already named Push Button (Bodemeister). His dam was most recently bred to Mastery. O-SF Racing, Starlight & Madaket; B-Peter E Blum Thoroughbreds (KY); T-Bob Baffert.
