Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted November 13, 2019 Journalists Share Posted November 13, 2019 Long-distance specialist Marmelo (GB) (Duke of Marmalade {Ire}–Capriolla {GB}, by In The Wings {GB}) has been retired from racing and will stand the 2020 season as a dual-stallion prospect at Haras du Grand Courgeon in Lion d’Angers, France. He will stand the initial season at stud at €3,500. Group 2 placed at three, the Hughie Morrison trainee won the G3 Prix de Barbeville and G2 Prix de Kergorlay the following year. During his 5-year-old season, he took the G2 Prix Maurice de Nieuil and the Listed Grand Cup S. before rounding off the season with a runner-up finish in the G1 Melbourne Cup at Flemington. In five starts this term, Marmelo annexed the G3 John Porter S. and in his latest trip to post, he successfully defended his title in the Prix de Kergolay in August. He retired with seven wins from 22 starts and earnings of £1,151,138. Bred by Deepwood Farm, the 6-year-old is a half-brother to Group 3-winning stayer Vent de Force (GB) (Hurricane Run {Ire}).
