Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted November 18, 2019 Journalists Share Posted November 18, 2019 Princess Dorian, who was seriously injured in the latter stages of an $8,000 claiming race at Del Mar, was euthanized Monday after developing acute laminitis in both hind legs. Daily Racing Form was first to report the news. “Rough, rough morning. We tried the best we could,” trainer Andrew Lerner told the Form. Princess Dorian was owned by Lerner in partnership with Colorado Avalanche defenseman Erik Johnson, who told his partner immediately after the incident to “do whatever you can to save this horse’s life. I don’t care what it costs. She deserves it.” Johnson was a guest on the ‘TDN Writers’ Room‘ podcast Nov. 13. After consulting with vets following the injury, surgery was performed at the San Luis Rey Equine Hospital Nov. 11 and the initial post-operative prognosis was guarded, but positive. But Monday, Lerner told the Form that, “She became very uncomfortable behind. It happened so quickly. It took everyone by surprise, owing to the way she had been doing.” This story will be updated The post Princess Dorian Euthanized appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
