Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted November 30, 2019 Journalists Share Posted November 30, 2019 Bob Fox passed away Thursday in New Jersey. He was 75. Fox participated in every facet of the Thoroughbred industry over the last four decades, from bloodstock and stallion syndications to television, written and radio media, to equine art. He was involved in the syndication and early stud careers of Alydar, Wild Again, Capote and Skip Away and he purchased five-time Grade I winner Devil His Due for $25,000 as a weanling at the 1989 Keeneland November sale. In his “On Line with Bob Fox,” Fox would interview racing personalities, including this 1983 clip with trainer Frank Whitely, Jr. Fox also had a regular radio segment, “Thoroughbred Legacies,” which aired on At the Races with Steve Byk. “Bob Fox was an icon in the business,” recalled Pat Payne, a longtime friend and Vice President of Sales at Taylor Made Sales Agency. “He was the original marketing person. He and J. T. Lundy personally put Alydar on the map. There would be ads in the Blood-Horse and he’d be in a samurai suit advertising. He went out of the box, when, back then, no one did. But he did. He was just a hell of a guy.” Private services for Fox are planned for Monday.
