Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted November 30, 2019 Journalists Share Posted November 30, 2019 A winner on turf and on a fast dirt track in her last two starts, FINITE (f, 2, Munnings–Remit, by Tapit) showed she could handle two turns and a rain-affected strip, gamely holding off Motu (Paynter) the length of the long Churchill stretch to win Saturday’s GII Golden Rod S. Nicely into stride from gate one beneath Ricardo Santana Jr., Finite was content to lay third as Bean (Bernardini) showed the way from longshot Lady Glamour (Discreet Cat). Steered off the inside and into the three path with 4 ½ furlongs to race, the 4-5 chalk rolled up three wide on the second turn and poked her head in front at the head of the lane. Motu, second-last early on, drew closer to Finite as they moved into the final furlong, but Finite met the bid and held on to score by a half-length. Runner-up in a pair of appearances over the summer at Saratoga, the $200,000 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic juvenile graduated by 4 1/4 lengths at Kentucky Downs Sept. 12 and added a six-length defeat of Lady Glamour in this track’s Rags To Riches S. going a one-turn mile Oct. 27. The 13th graded winner for her sire, Finite was–somewhat remarkably–the first Golden Rod winner for trainer Steve Asmussen. Lifetime Record: 5-3-2-0. O-Winchell Thoroughbreds, Thomas Reiman, William J Dixon & Deborah Easter; B-Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC (KY); T-Steve Asmussen.
