Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted December 1, 2019 Journalists Share Posted December 1, 2019 A holiday weekend which started with a rained-out card on Thanksgiving day at Del Mar Thursday, ended with an entirely different kind of storm Sunday evening as Gary Barber’s Got Stormy (f, 4, Get Stormy–Super Phoebe, by Malabar Gold) earned her second Grade I of the season with a come-from-behind victory in the GI Matriarch H. The 7-5 favorite, coming off a runner-up effort in the GI TVG Breeders’ Cup Mile, settled in midpack as longshot Painting Corners (Pleasant Strike) took the field through fractions of :22.55 and :45.55. Got Stormy made eye-catching progress turning for home and strode confidently to the lead at the top of the lane before holding on to a 3/4-length victory as Daddy Is a Legend (Scat Daddy) closed for second. Juliet Foxtrot (GB) (Dansili {GB}) was third. The time for the mile was 1:34.24. Got Stormy beat the boys with a 2 1/2-length victory in the GI Fourstardave H. at Saratoga in August and was second in the Sept. 14 GI Woodbine Mile before finding only fellow distaffer Uni (GB) (More Than Ready) too good in the Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita last month. Lifetime Record: 18-8-3-3. O-Gary Barber. B-Mt Joy Stable, Pope McLean, Marc McLean, et al (Ky). T-Mark Casse.
