Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted December 8, 2019 Journalists Share Posted December 8, 2019 Japan’s Admire Mars (Jpn) (Daiwa Major {Jpn}) became the first 3-year-old to take out the G1 Longines Hong Kong Mile Sunday, outfinishing the unlucky Waikuku (Ire) (Harbour Watch {Ire}) to take the chocolates. Beauty Generation (NZ) (Road to Rock {Aus}), favored at 19-10 to make it three straight wins in the race, came to win it 300m from home, but as has been the case his last two runs, he lacked his prior finishing kick and stayed on for third. Settled mid-division in the slipstream of Beauty Generation as the latter scrimmaged up front with Ka Ying Star (GB) (Cityscape {GB}), Admire Mars followed the two-time champion into the lane, switched out at the 200m and, despite racing on his incorrect lead for a time, saw it out. Waikuku was forced to drop back from his wide draw, similar to last year’s Hong Kong Derby, and was admirable in defeat.
