Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted December 11, 2019 Journalists Share Posted December 11, 2019 Newmarket played host to the autumn meeting of the European Federation of Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association where 13 countries were represented. Among the challenges discussed were BREXIT and the upcoming Animal Health Law. The EFTBA will continue its lobbying efforts against the restriction of horse movement and the need to mirror provision between the EU and third countries. Currently, the EFTBA has obtained observer status on the EMHF and is working closely with racing authorities to maintain consistent rules across member countries. The EFTBA is also seeking clarification on some technical issues, including the BHA-prohibited substance Regumate, which is a welfare issue for breeders. Responsible ownership and welfare of the Thoroughbred were also highlighted during the meeting, as was the need for as many young people as possible getting involved with the industry. There will be a future generation seminar on the last-named topic in Ireland next year. “There are many challenges facing the industry in the foreseeable future and it is paramount EFTBA take a lead role in ensuring we secure the best deal for breeders,” said EFTBA Chairman Joe Hernon. “We need the industry to work together, with cohesion, and to the same standards, this includes testing regimes and their methodology as this allows for fair and open competition. We must continue to highlight the economic significance of the Thoroughbred industry throughout Europe and ensure that no unworkable restrictions will be placed on the movement of horses in the near future.” The post EFTBA Meeting Held at HQ appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
