Moore Euros has given her injured trainer Richard Clarke a welcome boost with her win in the Highway Plate at Randwick.

Clarke, who now trains in partnership with his son Luke, remains on light duties after suffering serious injuries early this year.

The two are based at Braidwood and Moore Euros is the star of the stable, racking up her fourth win from 11 starts in Saturday’s 1000m-race for country-trained horses.

The $6 equal favourite came out of the pack when asked by Robbie Dolan and overhauled the joint top pick Bombdiggity to win by a short neck.

Luke Clarke said the win would be one his father would savour as he continues his recovery after being barrelled by a horse.

“He’s getting better all the time but he won’t have much to do with the horses,” Luke said.

“He keeps an eye on things and checks out the races. He’s alive, anyway.

“A horse knocked him over, he went under and all the back of his skull was smashed in. They had to re-create it.

“He’s good but still fairly fragile. He’d be at home having a scotch or two no doubt. It keeps him going. He loves the horses.

“He actually broke his neck and had his C2 and C3 fused when he was 40. A horse rolled over him. He hasn’t been on a horse since. Dad’s tough. He has to be.”

Clarke said Moore Euros may return for another Highway race or tackle a metropolitan midweek event for fillies and mares.
